Pastor Beckwith's most recent publication is a translation of Johann Gerhard's Handbook of Consolations. Following Martin Luther (1483-1546) and Martin Chemnitz (1522-1586), Johann Gerhard (1582-1637) is the most significant theologian of the Lutheran church. Among his many wonderful theological works is the Handbook of Consolations. This small pastoral work is written as a dialogue between a pastor and doubting Christian. The pastor listens to the various questions and doubts raised by the Christian and then carefully points the individual to Jesus Christ alone and the comfort of the Gospel. A classic of Lutheran confessional theology that all who seek the comfort and certainty of the Gospel will want to read and re-read.
