Hope Lutheran Bible Class
Welcome to the Hope Lutheran Bible Class page!
Over the past Church Year, we have studied St. Paul's Epistle to the Romans, the Augsburg Confession, St. Peter's epistles, and St. John's epistles. We are now studying St. Paul's Epistle to the Galatians. All are welcomed and encouraged to join us at 9:00 am in the fellowship hall for coffee, the occasional doughnut, and good Lutheran theological discussion!
Below you will find various resources related to our Bible Class and discussions. If you have any questions or comments, please contact Pastor Beckwith (clbeckwi@samford.edu).
1. The Lutheran Study Bible. A recently published study Bible for confessional Lutherans. This is an excellent resource for all Christians that will help you better understand God's Word. I encourage all to purchase a copy of The Lutheran Study Bible and bring it along to our class.
2. Paul Kretzmann, Popular Commentary on the Bible, New Testament, volume 2. This commentary is also available on-line here. Kretzmann's commentary has served generations of Lutherans. It is written in a clear and accessible style that faithfully expounds the Word of God. You will certainly deepen your understanding of God's Word with Kretzmann by your side.
3. Martin Luther, Lectures on Galatians (1535), Luther's Works, volumes 25 and 26 (St. Louis, MO: Concordia Publishing House). This commentary is one of Luther's best works. He offers here a clear presentation of the main points of St. Paul's letter: justification by faith alone, the objective and universality of Christ's atoning work, and the scriptural relationship between the faith we confess and the lives of faith we live in good works.
