God's Word and Luther's doctrine pure shall to eternity endure

The members of Hope Lutheran Church believe, teach, confess, and sing

  • that the verbally-inspired and inerrant Word of God is the only rule and norm according to which all doctrines and teachers alike must be appraised and judged (2 Tim 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; John 6:68): TLH Hymns

  • that God has revealed himself to us as the Holy and Blessed Trinity who is one God in three eternally distinct Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matt 28:19)

  • that all people are conceived and born in sin after the fall of Adam (Rom 5:12); that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Rom 3:23); and that because of this original sin all people are unable to have true fear of God and true faith in God (Gen 6:5; Ps 51:5; Rom 3:11-18)

  • that Jesus Christ, the Eternal Son of God, assumed flesh (John 1:1-14), lived a perfect life (1 Pet 2:22; 1 John 3:5), fulfilled the law (Matt 5:17), suffered on the Cross for our sins (Rom 5:6, 8), appeased the wrath of the Father for us (Rom 5:9), destroyed the devil through his death for us (Heb 2:14; 1 Cor 15:54-556), and rose again for our justification (Rom 4:25)

  • that God the Father sent his Son to the be Savior of the world (1 John 4:14) and to save sinners (1 Tim 1:15); that no other name has been revealed under heaven by which we must be saved than Jesus Christ alone (Acts 4:12); that Jesus Christ is the propitiation for our sins and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world (1 John 2:2); and that we place our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe (1 Tim 4:10)

  • that God the Holy Spirit works and strengthens faith in us through the preaching of the Word (Rom 10:17); that faith in Christ is a gift of the Holy Spirit (Eph 2:8-9), and that no one can say Jesus is Lord except by the power of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 12:3)

  • that the Law reveals our sins to us (Rom 3:20) and the Gospel, the good news that Jesus Christ alone is our Savior, comforts our contrite hearts with the declaration that our sins are freely forgiven by faith in Christ's saving work for us; that by faith we are clothed with his perfect righteousness (2 Cor 5:21); that by grace alone through faith alone in Christ Jesus alone we are perfectly justified, declared righteous, and have the gift of eternal life (Rom 3:21-28)

  • that if anyone preaches a Gospel contrary to this it is false, deceitful, spiritually harmful, and must be rejected, condemned, and accursed by all Christians (Gal 1:6-9)

  • that God bestows saving faith, the forgiveness of sins, and Christ's righteousness through the regenerating gift of the Holy Spirit to all people, including infants, through Holy Baptism (Matt 28:19; Titus 3:3-5)

  • that the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ is truly and essentially present in Holy Communion under the bread and wine for the forgiveness of our sins (Mk 14:22-24; Matt 26:26-29; Lk 22:17-20)

  • that the Church is God's family, gathered by him to receive his gifts of Word and Sacrament for the strengthening of faith, the forgiveness of sins, and gift of eternal life (Acts 2:42; Heb 10:25)

  • that Jesus is coming again to judge both the living and the dead (Acts 10:42; 2 Tim 4:1)
